Luke Wright eyeing T20 World Cup to establish himself

London, Sat, 24 Apr 2010 ANI

London, Apr 24(ANI): England all-rounder Luke Wright is eyeing the forthcoming Twenty20 World Cup as the perfect platform to establish himself in the national squad.

"I don't just want to make small contributions. I want to put in match-winning performances for the side, that is what will make me happy," The Mirror quoted Wright, as saying.

"Of course I want more, I wouldn't be human if I didn't want to improve my stats and be a main player for England and get the accolades that come from being a matchwinner, but that is not my role at the minute," he added.

Wright, who was first selected for the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa, has never been in the spotlight, but he is optimistic that the Caribbean adventure could be the platform for him to step out of the shadows.

"There is a lot of cricket to be played and I'm desperate to be involved as a main character and not just a bitpart player," Wright said.

"The only way for that to be the case is if I put in performances on the field starting in the Caribbean and then for my county after that. The better I play the more I should get to do with England. I want to remain a firm pick in the short forms of the game, make my Test debut and go to Australia next winter," he added. (ANI)
