PMO rules out chances of Chidambaram heading IPL probe panel

New Delhi, Fri, 23 Apr 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 23 (ANI): Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Friday clarified that Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has not asked Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to head the Indian Premier League (IPL) probe.

Earlier, a section of the media had reported that Dr Singh had asked Chidambaram to head a panel to probe the multi crore sports scam.

In a statement issued in this regard, the PMO stated that there is no truth in the report.

"There is no truth in the story as reported that the Prime Minister has asked the Home Minister to head the IPL probe," the statement said.

Earlier in the week, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee along with Chidambaram discussed issues related to the scam with Union Agriculture Minister and Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) member Sharad Pawar.

Mukherjee is regularly briefing Prime Minister Dr Singh over ongoing investigations by the central agencies into the scam. (ANI)
