Sydney, Apr 9(ANI): Two baggy green caps worn by Australian legends Neil Harvey and Greg Chappell have been sold at an auction for a combined price of 25,000 dollars.
Harvey's baggy green went under the hammer in Melbourne for 15,660 dollars, while Chappell's cap went for 9490 dollars.
Auctioneer Charles Leski said both baggy greens reached their pre-sale estimates, and were purchased by private collectors.
"These days the market is not as buoyant as it was. So, getting in the estimate range is a pretty good outcome," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Leski, as saying.
Harvey represented the national team between 1948 and 1963, playing in 79 Test matches. He was the vice-captain of the team from 1957 until his retirement.
He was the senior batsman in the Australian team for much of the 1950s and was regarded by Wisden as the finest fielder of his era. Upon his retirement, Harvey was the second-most prolific Test run-scorer and century-maker for Australia.
Chappell had captained Australia between 1975 and 1977, and then joined the breakaway World Series Cricket (WSC) organization, before returning to the Australian captaincy in 1979, a position he held till his retirement in 1983.
The second of three brothers to play Test cricket, Chappell was the pre-eminent Australian batsman of his time, who allied elegant stroke making with fierce concentration. (ANI)
