"Different" Bollinger's record in Test cricket is exceptional: Ponting

Sydney, Mar 24 (ANI): Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said that pacer Doug Bollinger's record in Test cricket has been exceptional.

Bollinger bowled 40 overs on a good batting pitch at Wellington's Basin Reserve in the first Test against New Zealand to take match figures of 7-108

"Doug's record since he has come in to Test cricket (34 wickets at 22.32 in seven matches) has been exceptional," Ponting said on Tuesday.

"He's just a bit different, Doug, if you look at the bounce that he got out of this wicket compared to everybody else in the game. He probably got more bounce out of the track, which is why he got those nicks through to the keeper that other bowlers might not have got," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him, as saying.

"He was probably a little bit below his best in the one-dayers but the way he started this game here with the new ball in his hand and a bit of extra bounce in the track, he exploited it beautifully,' Ponting said.

Bollinger's new-ball partner Ryan Harris claimed 6-119 from 41 overs on debut.

The pair and Mitchell Johnson (2-145 from 41) were drained by a heavy workload in the first Test, with all-rounder Shane Watson absent because of a thigh injury.

Spinner Nathan Hauritz took 3-119 from 49 overs in the second innings. (ANI)
