Bhubaneswar, Mar 22 (ANI): Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan inaugurated the Vrindavan Gurukul, an Indian classical music institution here on Sunday.
The school is jointly set up by Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, renowned flute exponent, and santoor maestro Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Vridavan Gurukul is dedicated to the teaching and promotion of India's traditional performing arts, music and dance particularly, besides yoga and meditation techniques in a serene atmosphere, along the ancient Indian "gurukul" principles.
"The entire tradition of guru (teacher) and shishya (student) is by itself a very traditional Indian concept and I think there are a very few institutions and indeed individuals who care for this tradition and want to promote it as their love for the music and their profession has grown," Bachchan said.
Pandit Chaurasia said that the gurukul was his dream project and here all forms of Indian music including classical, folk and Thumri would be taught.
"The children will come here and surrender themselves to their teachers. The gurus will adopt them and nurture them," said Chaurasia.
Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Jaya Bachchan were also present on the occasion. (ANI)
