Indian Boxers proves their supremacy; won 6 gold medals in CBC

Adding a golden chapter in the Indian Boxing history, the six Indian boxers including India's no.1 and Bejing Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh Wednesday punched six out of 10 gold medals in the Commonwealth Boxing Championship at Taalkatora stadium, New Delhi amid tight security and packed crowed.

The Taalkatora stadium that was packed with over 2,500 viewers and was in the tight security became the witness of golden day for the Indian Boxing Federation, as this is the first time India has bagged six gold medals in Commonwealth championships. Earlier in 2005 in Scotland, it had won 4 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The enthusiastic crowd was waiting for the great thrilling matches and their wishes became fulfill as India's Parmjeet Samota in super heavyweight (+91 kg) category begin the gold rush for India by defeating New Zealand's Joseph Parker 7-3. In the three round match, Parmjeet was ahead 4-3, but in the third and final round, he showed immense technique and nail down Parker.

The excitement went on the top, when the last bout of India's Boxing hero Vijendra Singh began in the ring. The cheerleaders were dancing on every punch of Indian Boxing icon. However, Vijendra's nose was bleeding from a strong punch of England's Frank Bulioni, but the experience of Vijender worked there and he could be able to outpunched his counterpart 13-3. He was well ahead till the second round with 7-2 and got the 10 point lead in the third round. He was contesting in the middle-weight (75 kg.) category. He was also declared the best boxer of the tournament.

The boxers who won their bout were Amandeep (49kg), Dinesh Kumar (81kg), Asian champion Suranjoy Singh (52kg) and Jai Bhagwan (62kg).

Six out of five gold medal came from straight win while Dinesh Kumar in the light heavyweight (81 kg) category won the gold without any effort as Callium Johnson of Scotland withdrew from the title-clash with an elbow injury.

Amandeep punched out Kenya's Peter Mungai 3-0 in the final of the light flyweight (49) category while Asian champion Suranjoy Singh easily defeated Mauritius' Oliver Lavigi as the referee stopped the contest when he was leading 1-0.

Asian silver medallist Jai Bhagwan in the lightweight (62kg) category beat Valention Knowles of Bahamas 6-2. Till the second round, both boxers were on tie 2-2 but in the final round, Jai dominated and won four more points.

All the winners were awarded cash prizes and bikes like Indian cricketers. Moreover an Indian company Percept has signed a 3-year deal with five players who won the gold medal here including Vijender and made them the brand ambassador of the company.
