London, Mar 16 (ANI): Jenson Button's former boss and managing director of Mercedes GP, Nick Fry, has warned the Formula One champ that he will have to up his game if he wants to beat McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Mercedes GP is the new incarnation of the Brawn squad that took Button to the title last year.
Following Button's seventh place finish to Hamilton's third in Bahrain, Fry said: "There's clearly a gap that Jenson is going to have to close. It's absolutely self-evident."
"I'm sure he'll be looking after the Bahrain weekend at what he can do about it. Lewis does have home team advantage at the moment but the longer Jenson stays with the team, the more that reason goes away," The Sun quoted Fry, as saying.
"He'll have to be looking at all the aspects of his own performance, not only how he drives but also the way he works with the team. Jenson will know all those things and he has got to work hard," he said.
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh feels Button will improve his performance at the next race in Australia.
Whitmarsh said: "I think in fairness Jenson was disappointed with his qualifying. And in the race he didn't get clean air. He was quicker than the Mercedes of Michael Schumacher but couldn't get past him, just as Lewis could not get past the other Mercedes of Nico Rosberg earlier on." (ANI)
