Enthusiasts in Bangalore run to celebrate Women's Day

Bangalore, Sun, 07 Mar 2010 ANI

Bangalore, Mar 7 (ANI): Over 800 enthusiasts in Bangalore hit the streets today to participate in a run on the eve of International Women's Day.

The two marathons, 5 and 10 kilometres long, aimed at encouraging women to run for a healthy lifestyle also saw participation from men.

"It's nice, it's first of its kind organised on Women's Day, and I think will encourage more women to run and get fitter and get stronger," said Reeth Abraham, an athlete.

The organisers of the run said that they would use the proceeds from the registrations for the cause of the girl child.

"We also think that all this running should be put to good cause. Parakram Humanity Foundation is a very good cause. They actually support four schools for underprivileged students, so actually we will be giving all proceeds from the registration towards educating the girl child," said Chandra Gopalan, the organiser of the event.
