India temporarily suspends medical mission in Afghanistan

New Delhi/ Kabul, Mar 6 (ANI): India on Saturday temporarily suspended its medical mission in Afghanistan and asked all doctors and paramedical staff working at the Indira Gandhi Children's Hospital in Kabul to return home following a terror attack on its nationals here last week.

 

Indian Government has decided to be more cautious after the third major attack on its establishments in Kabul in last two years.

 

The decision came during the visit of the National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon to Afghanistan to review the security arrangements in Kabul.

 

A private news channel reported quoting an Indian embassy official in Kabul that security concerns for Indian Government employees living and working in Afghanistan were extremely serious.

 

The government also restricted the movement of Indian Embassy officials in Kabul till further orders.

 

Meanwhile, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai assured visiting National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon that security for Indian establishments across Afghanistan would be increased and extra efforts would be made to protect Indian citizens working on various developmental projects.

 

Menon has also assured President Karzai that New Delhi would resume its developmental efforts in Afghanistan in some time. (ANI)
