Dhaka, Mar. 2 (ANI): England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been given the green light to return home to be with his wife Jessica Taylor, as both are expecting their first child during the Twenty20 World Cup, which runs from April 30 to May 16 in the Caribbean.
According to The Sun, Pietersen has said nothing will prevent him from being at Jessica's side at the time of the birth.
National selector Geoff Miller, however, is prepared for England to be left a man short, even if it occurs on the eve of a key match.
He said: "We are not setting a precedent here. We strongly advocate players being solid family-wise. So, we will cross that bridge when we come to it."
"There are all kinds of possibilities with the birth of a child. It could be at any stage, so we will play it by ear. The baby is due later in the World Twenty20 so it wouldn't delay him coming out with the squad at the start. Kevin is fine with it," Miller added.
One man who will not be flying out to the Caribbean is Alastair Cook, despite the fact he sits on the verge of his first series triumph as England captain.
A win in today's second ODI against Bangladesh would give the stand-in leader an unassailable 2-0 lead with one to play.
Cook has impressed with his leadership, in place of the rested Andrew Strauss, and with his batting at the top of the order.
But Miller insists 50-over form should not be confused with T20 ability.
He added: "We did not think Alastair was a 20-over player. He can now go and prove us wrong." (ANI)
