Climate change science is "robust", not a "house of cards"

Edinburgh, Wed, 24 Feb 2010 ANI

Edinburgh, Feb 24 (ANI): The head of the UK government's climate change committee has said that the science behind climate change is "robust", and not a "house of cards" that has come tumbling down due to the Climategate scandal.

According to a report in the Scotsman, David Kennedy, chief executive of the Committee on Climate Change, said he was worried that the public would stop supporting the need for action to tackle global warming because of recent controversies.

These have included leaked e-mails from the University of East Anglia that sceptics say suggests scientists tried to cover up some evidence.

However, Dr Kennedy said that the science was "robust".

"It's not a house of cards that has come tumbling down now because of these controversies," he said. "The fundamentals are very well established," he added.

He said questions about some "specific issues" needed to be answered, but these did not change the fundamental science. (ANI)
