Tevez to remain in Argentina until baby is out of danger

London, Tue, 23 Feb 2010 ANI

London, Feb 23(ANI): Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, whose prematurely born daughter is on life-support, will remain in Argentina until she is off it.

The decision is a big blow for Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, who was banking on Tevez to dash back to Eastlands ahead of the week to save the club's Premier League season.

City is already suffering due to knee injuries to Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy, and after Sunday's disappointing home draw against Liverpool, Mancini has admitted that being without Tevez is something he cannot afford.

The 26-year-old is in the form of his life and is needed for Manchester City's visit to Chelsea on Saturday.

According to reports, Tevez will only leave when doctors give him an understanding it is safe to do so and the word last night was that he must continue to wait for such assurances.

Meanwhile, Tevez's adviser Kia Joorabchian said that City had been kept fully informed, and the star striker will come back as soon as possible.

"When your child is in intensive care, it is a very serious matter. When these things happen you have to deal with them and obviously he is having to go through a very difficult period. The signs are very positive in terms of his daughter's recovery and we are all hoping this is the case," The Independent quoted Joorabchian, as saying.

"He was determined to get back for the Liverpool game, but unfortunately the situation didn't get much better. However, she has got better over the weekend and Carlos hopes things will get etter, for his daughter's sake and because he wants to get back and play," he added. (ANI)
