Malik reckons Afridi is the best T20 captain for Pakistan

Lahore, Tue, 23 Feb 2010 ANI

Lahore, Feb. 23 (ANI): Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik has clarified that while he enjoyed wearing the captain's hat in Shahid Afridi's absence, he reckons that the devastating all rounder is the best Twenty20 captain for Pakistan.

"I enjoyed leading the team in last three T20 matches in Shahid Afridi's absence but it is better he gets back to captaining the side in this format of the game," The News quoted Malik, as saying.

Malik, who captained Pakistan between 2007 and 2009, has refused to comment on his stance in case the PCB presses him to continue as skipper.

Malik also admitted that Saturday's Twenty20 victory against England has eased a lot of pressure that Pakistani team was under after a spell of losses.

"There is no doubt that when you are constantly losing matches you tend to get into a losing mentality and come under pressure. It happens to all international sportsmen and it happened to us as well," he said.

"But now that we have finally broken this losing streak, hopefully this would be a fresh start for us and will allow us to defend our title successfully in the T20 World Cup," he added.

Malik attributed Pakistan's victory to Abdul Razzaq's innings.

"I think he played extremely well under pressure and took the game away from the English bowlers. He left them helpless with his sound and well executed shots," he said. (ANI)
