Andrew Lloyd Webber eyeing Abbey Road studios

London, Sat, 20 Feb 2010 ANI

London, Feb 20 (ANI): Musical legend Andrew Lloyd Webber wants to buy the historic Abbey Road studios.

Music company EMI is believed to be planning to sell the venue, which saw the Beatles record almost all their numbers and was also home to hit albums like Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon.

And now Lloyd Webber, who has often used the famed venue for soundtrack albums, has jumped into the fray to own the site.

He has favoured the venue because of its unrivalled size, which can accommodate full orchestras, vital for recordings of stage productions.

Lloyd Webber's spokesman has confirmed that the musician is "very interested" in buying Abbey Road studios.

"He first recorded there in 1967 with Tim Rice. Andrew has since recorded most of his musicals there, from Jesus Christ Superstar to his new musical Love Never Dies," the Mirror quoted Lloyd Webber's rep, as saying.

The rep added: "He thinks it is vital that the studios are saved for the future of the music industry in the UK.

"Abbey Road has such great facilities, with three major recording studios, and Andrew has probably brought more musicians to record there than anyone else because it has the capacity to record large orchestral productions." (ANI)
