PCB chief Butt skips crucial ICC meeting to rush back home on Zardari's call

Islamabad, Thu, 11 Feb 2010 ANI

Islamabad, Feb.11 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt has rushed back home on President Asif Ali Zardari's call, ignoring a crucial ICC meeting in Dubai, scheduled to be held on Friday.

Speculations were rife regarding Butt's removal following Pakistan's deplorable performance Down Under. However, Zardari seems to have overlooked the issue.

According to PCB insiders, Zardari has summoned Butt to explain the prevalent mismanagement in the PCB.

They said the agenda of the meeting is not limited and it includes all issues of Pakistan cricket.

"It is true that the finalisation of governing council members tops the agenda but more crucial issues are Javed Miandad's letter to President Zardari, the mismanagement in the board, the national team's poor show in Australia and calls for removal of Ijaz," The Daily Times quoted sources, as saying.

Butt,76, has come under severe attack from all quarters following Pakistan's complete white wash against Australia, and it was believed that he would be sacked from the prized PCB post.

However, he seems to have saved his head from being axed for the time being mainly due to consistent efforts of some of the top bureaucrats and his close relative and federal Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar. (ANI)
