Gayle invokes teammates' 'self belief' to halt rampant Australian run

Sydney, Thu, 11 Feb 2010 ANI

Sydney, Feb 11 (ANI): West Indies captain Chris Gayle has criticized his side's lack of discipline compared to Australia's playing style, and asked his players to lift their game for Friday's third one-dayer.

The Windies were embarrassed in Tuesday's eight-wicket defeat in the second match in Adelaide and are facing a possible 5-0 sweep by an Australian side in rampant form.

Gayle, who made a first-ball duck in Adelaide, addressed his players in a huddle on Thursday morning before a fielding session at the SCG.

"Just to remind the guys to still have the self-belief, still have that self-confidence to go out there and beat Australia. We have to keep reminding each other how good we are and we have the capability to get the job done," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Gayle, as saying.

"They (Australia) definitely execute better than us. They are more disciplined than us as well. In the bowling department and batting department, they kind of stick to their plans at all times," he said.

"The majority of the time we set targets and we don't actually live up to the expectations. We need to try to execute and be a bit more disciplined in all areas," Gayle said.

Gayle, who had predicted a 4-1 series win for the Windies, laughed when the topic was raised at Thursday's pre-match press conference. (ANI)
