London, Feb 3 (ANI): Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton has admitted after testing his new McLaren car that most of the problems with his previous car has been sorted out.
After completing 108 laps of the 2.5-mile Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia the former Formula One world champion said: "I got out smiling. All the problems I had in the last car, I don't have in this one. So for me, this was everything I could have asked for from a first day. It's gone well."
"The encouraging thing is reliability. We've had two days and not really had any problems and that's a huge plus for us," The Sun quoted Hamilton, as saying.
Hamilton finished third at the end of the day with a best lap time of one minute and 12.256 seconds, 0.534 seconds behind Ferrari's Felipe Massa, who again finished quickest after racking up 124 laps.
Twelve months ago it was a different story as McLaren's car wrecked Hamilton's hopes of defending his crown.
Hamilton said: "It was a night-and-day feeling compared to the first test day of 2009. I have a positive feeling. I've kept a close eye on the development of this car. I've seen the car evolve and having had input into it and I was very excited today to see what parts had improved. Hopefully we've got rid of a lot of bugs we had in the previous car."
With less than six weeks to the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, Hamilton admitted: "It's too early to say that this is a car that can challenge. But I do feel it's a huge improvement from the beginning of 2009, therefore we're not two to three seconds behind." (ANI)
