Pak U-19 coach Ijaz Ahmed willing to take charge of senior squad

Lahore, Wed, 03 Feb 2010 ANI

Lahore, Feb.3 (ANI): Following the success of the junior team in the under-19 cricket World Cup, coach Ijaz Ahmed has expressed his desire of working with the senior squad, whose Australia tour is proving to be a nightmare, as the visitors have not won a single match so far in the series.

Ahmed, who guided the junior team in to the final of the U-19 World Cup where they lost to Australia, said he is ready to be the coach of the senior team, if given an opportunity.

"I know everyone is disappointed with the senior team's performance. If the board asks me to coach the senior team I will accept it as a challenge as I know the players well," said Ahmed.

Commenting on the team's 25 run defeat in the U-19 World Cup final against the Kangaroos, he said some poor decisions against Pakistan cost the match and the coveted trophy.

"Babar (Azam) was wrongly given out. It was a poor decision. If the decision had gone in our favour, we could have won the final. But these things happen in cricket and one has to accept them. I am proud of the performance of our young team," The Daily Times quoted Ahmed, as saying. (ANI)
