It's official: Women are safer drivers than men

Melbourne, Sat, 30 Jan 2010 ANI

Melbourne, January 30 (ANI): Women appear to have crushed the age old myth under their wheels after they were officially named as better drivers than men.

Men were four times more likely to be the driver in a fatal accident than women, according to latest crash statistics from Australia's Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA).

Figures showed that while there was a 2.3 percent rise in crashes with men controlling vehicles, women, on the other hand, set a decline of almost two per cent when steering the wheel involved in a fatal accident.

"It is about being careful. Women are better drivers because they are more cautious," News.com.au quoted high performance driving instructor Amy Boatwright as saying.

Boatwright added: "Women are really interested in the sport but when it comes to actual driving they don't have the confidence. It is because they have that in-built caution." (ANI)
