Gaya, Jan 28 (ANI): Hard work and determination bears fruit and this has been proved by the Vahilya family of Bihar's Gaya district.
A barren piece of land was handed over to them during the 'Bhoodan Andolan' (the voluntary land renunciation movement in India), started by Acharya Vinoba Bhave in 1950s.
The farmers worked the thick sand-covered land and after putting in several years of hard work, various fruits like Guava, Green Berry, Water Melon, Sweet Potato are now growing.
farmers say they are really reaping a good harvest from their hard work.
"There were many Guava trees which used to bear around 2000-4000 fruits a season. Three-four truckloads of guava were then transported to the markets. Having limited resources, we have put in so much effort to convert this land into a fruit garden. We sell these fruits and earn our living.," said Vindeshwar Ram,a villager.
"The major problem we face is the lack of water resources. When the Guavas reap they need plenty of water, which is limited in our area. We want a proper water pipeline..... Till now we were just filling buckets of water from the well and using it in the field." Ram added.
The Central Government spends billions of rupees annually for agricultural growth but villagers in the small areas are not able to avail of these facilities. (ANI)
