Serena Williams crushes Stosur to storm into Australian Open quarterfinals

Melbourne, Jan 25(ANI): Defending champion Serena Williams put an end to world No.13 Samantha Stosur's Australian Open campaign on Monday with a straight-sets fourth-round win at Rod Laver Arena.

Williams broke Stosur three times to notch a comfortable 6-4 6-2 victory in just 65 minutes to storm into the quarterfinals for the seventh time in 11 visits.

It was a perfect revenge for Williams, who had lost to Stosur in the Stanford's Bank of the West Classic quarterfinals, when they last played.

The Australian player was no match for the American superstar, as in a dominant serving display, Williams crunched 10 aces to Stosur's four and clubbed 20 clean winners to four to completely overwhelm her.

"I think Sam really burned me on a couple of returns, but she's serving incredible," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Williams, as saying.

"It's really good to match my game against her serve, because she's one of the best servers on the tour," she added.

Stosur's only look-in of the match came in the second game of the second set, but Williams ruthlessly fended off the first three break points she'd faced all tournament with three booming serves.

"I think today it was all about the serve. Honestly I'm just hoping I can serve again like that, because that was pretty cool," Williams said.

"I knew going into the match I had to serve well against Sam. She's a big server and even though she's not as tall, she serves incredibly well," she added.

Williams will now play either Belarussian Victoria Azarenka or Russian Vera Zvonareva on Wednesday for a place in the last four of the season's first grand slam event. (ANI)
