London, Jan 24 (ANI): To keep ace striker Wayne Rooney out of the clutches of Real Madrid, Manchester United offer a massive new contract to him this summer.
United are set to increase Rooney's weekly wage from 100,000 pounds to 140,000 pounds in their bid to keep the England striker that amounts to a rise in salary of over 2-7.3 million pounds.
United know they must make Rooney their top-paid player in order to keep his advisors happy, and sources close to Old Trafford have told Soccernet that the club is ready to scrap his current terms which run until 2012 and offer a new long-term contract.
The Spanish giants are thought to be putting together a 100 million pounds transfer package and have hired super-agent Pini Zahavi to drive the deal through.
Madrid president Florentino Perez is banking on Zahavi to get his man, but the agent is a long-time friend of Sir Alex Ferguson who will tell him that Rooney is not for sale at any price, News of the World reports.
The United manager is convinced that Rooney has no desire to play abroad and will re-sign, resisting a Bernabeu reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo. (ANI)
