New Delhi, Jan.23 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member and member of Parliament Brinda Karat has accused Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee of leading the most opportunistic political alliances in the country.
Speaking in an interview with ANI TV, Karat said: "It's is one of the most opportunistic political alliances led and played by Trinamool Congress and its leader" who are in fact in "direct and indirect alliance with the extreme Left, with the Maoists on the one hand and the extreme right fundamentalists on the other."
Taking a dig at Mamata, Karat said: "These people don't think about the future of West Bengal, as for political power, you are prepared to sacrifice basic democratic norms."
She described this nexus as a sad day for West Bengal and its politics.
She charged Banerjee of being in cahoots with the Maoists, while being a Central Government minister. This, she said, was clearly a conflict of interest.
"She (Mamata) brings to light a dangerous form of politics and says the Left is resisting it as only the poor are being killed. She utilizes her position as a Central cabinet minister to give patronage to these forces," Karat added.
Karat said the CPI-M has faced many setbacks after the elections, but this had not stopped the party from addressing issues.
"The party is not crumbling, nor is there a lack of leadership, as Jyoti Basu himself believed in the collective efforts of comrades," Karat said. By Sandhya Sharma (ANI)
