Mumbai, Jan 19 (ANI): At the third Indian Premier League (IPL) auction held in Mumbai on Tuesday, eleven capped players and three Under-19 players were bought. Respective team owners appeared pleased to select whom they wanted under the change of rules.

No player from Pakistan was picked up during the IPL 3 auction. Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir came under the hammer but had no takers.

Australian players too were not in demand at the auction as only Damien Martyn and Adam Voges were bought by the Rajasthan Royals for 1,00,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars respectively.

Kolkata Knight Riders bought New Zealand pacer Shane Bond for 7,50,000 dollars. His base price was 1,00,000 dollar.

West Indies pacer Keiron Pollard, whose base price was 2,00,000 dollars was purchased by Mumbai Indians for 7,50,000 dollars.

Though initially there was no bid for Mohammad Kaif, he was later picked up by Kings 11 Punjab for 2,50,000 dollars.

The last player to be purchased was Under-19 player Harshal Patel. He was bought by the Mumbai Indians.

The other two Under-19 players purchased were left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh and Under-19 skipper Ashok Menaria. The former joins the ranks of the Deccan Chargers, while the latter joins the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The three Under-19 players had a fixed price of Rs 8 lakh.

"All the teams have decided to bid for separate players. Chennai Super Kings has called South African Justin Kemp. So they get Kemp for his base price 100,000 dollar," IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi announced.

"Apart from the slots if the teams are left with the money, they can bring back any player they want including Mohammad Kaif," added Modi.

Many players, who were considered to be the favourites, remained unsold.

The list of players that was put up for auction included 11 each from Pakistan, Australia and South Africa, nine from Sri Lanka, eight each from England and West Indies, four from New Zealand and one each from Bangladesh, Canada, Zimbabwe and Holland.

The bought players would be contracted for only one season, specifically till December 31,2010. (ANI)
