Serena Williams aims to get even by keeping cool in Melbourne

Melbourne, Mon, 18 Jan 2010 ANI

Melbourne, Jan 18(ANI): American tennis star Serena Williams has said that she has moved on from her foul-mouthed outburst on a lineswoman at last September's US Open, and aims to get even by keeping cool in Melbourne.

Serena was fined a record 82,500 dollars by the International Tennis Federation for abusing Japanese official Shino Tsurubuchi for foot-faulting her in the US Open semi-final against Kim Clijsters.

"I felt incredibly bad, and miserable for losing my cool, and most importantly not representing the person I really am spiritually and the role model I want to be to my young fans," The Telegraph quoted Serena, as saying.

"I have been a very feisty player all my life, but when the time came for me to be calm and cool, I did not exercise a mild temper. I apologised to my fans and even wrote a personal letter to the lineswoman with my apologies. She understood as she often witnesses this, as it is not uncommon in my sport. She was extremely supportive and said that she did not think any further actions should be taken against me," she added.

Serena is the reigning champion in both singles and women's doubles at the Australian Open. She was also the champion in 2003, 2005 and 2007. (ANI)
