New Delhi, Mon, 18 Jan 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): The Centre has said that it would invite bids for the 4,000 MW Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) by the end of January in Chhattisgarh, and before March at Theyyur in Tamil Nadu.

On the sidelines of the Powerline conference here on Monday, Power Ministry Joint Secretary, I C P Keshari said, "The Request for Qualification for the Chhattisgarh UMPP would be invited at the end of this month and for the Theyyur in Tamil Nadu before March 2010."

The two-pit head location for these projects in Orissa have been shifted to coastal areas because of the water availability issues, added Keshari.

Emphasising that water has become a problem in coal-based projects, Keshari further said, "We have shifted the site of two pit head locations to coastal areas due to availability of water from the sea". (ANI)
