Fans livid over Capello's England World Cup song ban

London , Sat, 16 Jan 2010 ANI

London, Jan 16(ANI): England will have no official World Cup song this summer for the first time since 1966, after manager Fabio Capello reportedly axed plans, saying that he does not want his squad to get "distracted".

According to reports, the Italian has already made it clear to the Football Association (FA) that he does not want any commercial distractions from now until the end of the campaign.

The FA confirmed it, as a spokesman said that Capello wanted his players "to be fully focused on football".

Many supporters of the national team were outraged by the decision and expressed their dissatisfaction.

"It seems a little petty. Songs like Three Lions and Vindaloo have been great for the fans," The Mirror quoted Ian Hopkins, an England supporter, as saying.

"There have been some poor efforts, but having an England World Cup song is part of the tradition of the competition," he added. (ANI)
