NSA M.K.Narayanan likely to be West Bengal Governor

New Delhi, Fri, 15 Jan 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Jan.15 (ANI): National Security Adviser M.K.Narayanan is likely to become the next Governor of West Bengal, replacing Gopalkrishna Gandhi.

Sources said that Narayanan is being considered for West Bengal in view of his wide experience in national security and intelligence matters.

Sources said that the government is of the view that his presence in Kolkata would have a positive effect in helping the state government to deal firmly with the Naxal menace, which has assumed dangerous proportions in the wake of the recent Lalgarh offensive.

Prominent dailies of the country had earlier reported that Narayanan could either occupy the Raj Bhawan in Kolkata or Mumbai.

Narayanan, a former chief of the Intelligence Bureau, has rich experience in counter-terrorism and foreign policy decisions, and can therefore, be useful for Bengal as the state tackles Naxal violence.

There is also a suggestion that Chhattisgarh governor E S L Narasimhan may be confirmed in his additional charge in Hyderabad Raj Bhavan. Narasimhan has helped in efforts to restore normalcy following the post-Telangana agitation. (ANI)
