Ponting says will continue to play the hook and pull shots

Hobart (Tasmania, Australia), Jan. 15 (ANI): Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has said that he would continue to play the hook and pull shots, and hopes to improve on its accuracy even as teams pepper him with short balls.

Asked if teams would continue to test him with the short ball from here on, Ponting told the Sydney Morning Herald: "I think they probably will now, even today getting hit on the helmet, and top-edging one in the first half-dozen balls that I faced, they're the things teams are looking for."

"The bottom line with me is if I can't stop playing it, I'm just going to play it better. I've played it well throughout my career, and it has brought me a lot of runs," Ponting said.

"Once I feel I'm in really good touch again, I'll be hitting more of those in the middle than not. We're going to New Zealand next. I'm sure they'll have a good understanding of what's happened in the last couple of series, hopefully I can play it well over there. It is one of the shots I've always played. 'Pup' asked me if I had thought about not playing it and I can't. It's an instinctive sort of thing," Ponting said.

"I don't look at it as being a statement, it's one of those shots that comes more natural to me than it does to most, it has a lot to do with the way I pick the bat up and my foot movements. That's the reason why I play the shot as much and as often as I do," he said. (ANI)
