Melbourne, Jan 12 (ANI): Australian skipper Ricky Ponting handed his baggy green cap which was with him for previous 117 tests to maker Albion so that it can undergo makeover and be with him on time for the Hobart Test.
The baggy green cap was falling apart at the seams, and required the urgent restoration.
The Australian cricket captain had resisted calls for a makeover until realising its peak was about to fall off, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Overcoming the fear he might not get the cap back in time for the third Test against Pakistan beginning on Thursday in Hobart, a cap soaked in the blood, sweat and beers of 117 previous Tests - Ponting handed it over to its maker, Albion.
But only after being assured it would make it to Tasmania in time for the Test.
In their inner-west Sydney factory, Albion charged Myung Park, their master seamstress with the task of reviving the headpiece.
It was her first day back at work from leave, yet she was not at all fazed by the value of the garment, completing the task in just 45 minutes. After all, she had restored Steve Waugh's baggy green eight years ago, and make 7000 caps a year.
Players used to receive a new cap every Test match, but under Waugh's tenure the cap became an extension of the cricketer, to be cherished and worn to faded death.
Ponting received this particular cap more than 10 years ago after the original, presented to him on his debut, was stolen during a tour of Sri Lanka. (ANI)
