Mumbai, Jan.10 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday sought to woo business fraternity to look at Bihar as an investment destination saying the rule of law has been established and a fact that it can be governed also been proved in the State.
Addressing an audience at the Economic Times Awards 2009, where he was conferred the "Business Reformer of the Year" award, Nitish Kumar said: " Nobody today talks about law and order in Bihar. The rule of law has been established. And, Bihar can be governed has also been established."
Talking about the governance in Bihar all these years before he took over as its new Chief, Kumar said: "It was a not a case of misgovernance but absence of governance."
On being conferred "Business Reformer of The Year" award, Kumar said: "This is not a recognition of my personal achievement but the effort of thousands of people has gone into it."
He appealed to the country's who is who to do something for Bihar and said: "Until Bihar progresses, how can India progress?".
"I am thankful to the people, who selected us for the Business Reformer of the Year award. ....So, some business should also come to the State. Otherwise, what will be the meaning of this award!," Nitish remarked as the audience giggled over his jovial comment.
Kumar also urged the Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee after recieving the award from him on this occasion, to help Bihar. "I ask Finance Minister to now please help Bihar."
Meanwhile, Pranab Mukherjee on this occasion said: "the policies must reach out to all, especially the poor. Benefits must be seen by all the people."
Asserting that it will be possible to achieve inclusive growth, Mukherjee said: "Our approach to economic problems helped us."
" Right to education and food must be available to all," the Finance Minister added during his address at the function.
Meanwhile, other winners of the Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence, included: Hero Honda company, which won "The Company of the Year" award, IPCC chairman R.K.Pachauri won "Corporate Citizen of Year" award, Management Guru Ram Charan won "Global Indian of the Year" award, Idea Cellular won "Emerging Company of the Year" award, Vinita Bali of Britannia Industries Ltd. won "Business Woman of the Year" award, and GVK Reddy of GVK Industries won "Entrepreneur of the Year" award.
The other two important awards of the Business leader of the year and the Lifetime Achievement award were conferred upon Anand Mahindra and Keshub Mahindra respectively. (ANI)
