London, Dec. 28 (ANI): Indian officials are plotting to seize more control of world cricket by relocating the headquarters of the International Cricket Council to Mumbai.
That could be a possibility once Indian politician Sharad Pawar takes over the ICC presidency in July 2010.
The proposal to shift the ICC from Dubai to Mumbai has already received stern opposition from former England Cricket Board boss Lord MacLaurin, The Telegraph reports.
MacLaurin believes the repercussions from an ICC move to India would be serious and it could even affect major scheduling decisions such as holding the Ashes every two years.
The ICC board has already received another proposal to transfer the ICC headquarters back to its historical home at Lord's, but there are tax problems associated with a switch back to the UK. (ANI)
