Tribal dance groups spreads peace, harmony in Manipur

Imphal, (ANI): A two day musical extravaganza was held in Manipur recently where different tribal communities from all over India showcased their folk dances and spread the message of peace and harmony.

 

A festival that showcases folk dances of various tribes of the state, was organsied by the Manipur State Department of Arts and Culture in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre of Kolkata.

 

The event was aimed at preserving and promote tribal folk dance forms.

 

The 32 recognised tribes in Manipur have their own identity, culture, dance, music and custom. Eight tribal communities from all over India showcased their dance performances during the event.

 

According to the Manipur Government Arts and Culture Department Director Saroji, this is the main project for this time as the entire districts are mixed together; culture is the common way of meeting together of tribes with the valley people.

 

Tribal folk dances were presented by different troupes like Kabui Cultural Forum, Raigailong Imphal east, Thadou Kuki tribe of Molnom village, Churachandpur and Ukhrul Districts.he young artists were thrilled to showcase their respective folk dances.

 

"This festival highlights the age-old tradition and culture of our fore-fathers. We, the Tangkhul have a rich heritage to show to the people. So, we are here to participate in the festival," said Mahai Lunghar an artist.

 

"We have different tribes in Manipur. So, all the tribes have come to participate and present their folk dances. It provides a platform to different tribes to showcase their identity" said Adapho Rose, Artist

 

The festival helps in strengthening the integrity of the state and preserving the generations-old folk traditions. (ANI)
