New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): At a musical night held at the packed auditorium of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) here on Thursday, ghazal maestros Jagjit Singh and Asif Mehdi, of India and Pakistan respectively, mesmerised the audience with their performance.
The concert was jointly organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and a non-profit ghazal promotion platform, Routes 2 Roots.
Mehdi, the son of legendary ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan, is in India to perform in several cities.
Speaking to reporters, Jagjit Singh said, there was certainly a lot of friendship between the two neighbours.
"Pakistani artistes have been coming here and singing for the last 40 years, but that has not helped reduce terrorism. There is a lot of friendship between the two countries and the common masses," said Singh.
The audience felt that such concerts would help strengthen the bond between the two countries.
"This will help strengthen the relationship between the two countries more because both countries are very much in love with music and the ghazal (style) is very famous in both the countries. So we hope that in such trying times, this will help send a strong message to both the countries," said Bhaskar Bolodi, an audience.
Mehdi is scheduled to perform in Lucknow, Amritsar and Hyderabad along with other leading ghazal exponents. (ANI)
