London, December 11 (ANI): India will soon have its very own music awards on the lines of the Grammys.
The initiative has been taken by four men-Pranay Anthwal ,Jatish Varma, Sameer Dixit and UK-based Shokat Babul- who have formed Hub Entertainment to host the Indian Music Awards.
The awards will recognize several categories and all genres, ranging from Sufi, Carnatic, folk music from the hills to Rabindra Sangeet, apart from Bollywood film music, which accounts for 72 percent of music sales in the country.
The organisers intend to incorporate aspects similar to Western musical award ceremonies in the desi fore.
"We all work in related industries and have interacted professionally. We started thinking about this in August," the BBC quoted Anthwal as saying.
He added: "Despite India being so rich in music there are no music awards, except for the MTV music awards which have been discontinued.
"Music is only a part of any film award - say a category among many others.
"We have met several organisations who have been working in a particular genre for years together and with their help we will set up the categories and nominations."
Also, both national and international rock groups may be roped in to perform at the event scheduled to take place in February next year. (ANI)
