Guwahati, Dec 10 (ANI): Assam zoo authorities are in a state of fix after the directions of the Centre to release elephants in the zoo.
The instruction of the state zoo of Assam is to release the elephants into the wild.
The scenario, which according to the zoo authorities complicates the release procedure, is due to the fact that there are pregnant and handicapped in the elephant population of the zoo.
According to the wildlife observers and authorities in charge of the affairs of the zoo, the Assam state zoo has one of the finest environment for Elephants in as much as everything in the Zoo, is just like being in the natural state.
The Guwahati zoo has to its credit of having rescued many elephants, apart from other animals.
"Where will the animals go, how will they go. Once it is clear, we will take up the matter with the warden. We will correspond with the federal authorities. Once we get instructions we will transfer the elephants, some are pregnant too." said Narayan Mahanta, DFO, Assam state zoo.
According to the zoo authorities there are 12 elephants in the Guwahati zoo-6 males, 6 females, 2 of them being pregnant.
The staff and the caretakers of the zoo have become emotionally attached to these elephants and are very fond of them. (ANI)
