New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): A fire broke out this morning in the basement of the Assam Emporium in the Connaught Place area here.
Over 20 fire tenders were used to bring the situation under control. Fire officials rescued one person from the fourth floor of the building.
A K Sharma, the Chief Fire Officer, said: "Our main aim was to save the lives of the people and we made all efforts possible to rescue the persons trapped inside the building."
"We controlled the fire and did not allow it to spread the basement. There are around 20- 22 fire brigade vehicles, which are deputed for the rescue operation. Our initial focus was to save the lives of the people and we made all efforts to rescue people trapped inside the building," he added.
The cause of the fire is still not known. However, efforts are on to find out how the fire broke out in the building.
The Assam emporium is famous for selling northeastern handlooms and handicrafts. (ANI)
