London, Dec 10 (ANI): Hollywood has set a new box-office record as the year's annual ticket sales head beyond 10 billion dollars for the first time.
Revenues for the year have inched ahead of the previous record of 9.68 billion dollars set in 2007, according to Hollywood.com box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian.
With three weeks left in the year and huge films still to come, Dergarabedian projects that domestic revenues will climb to 10.6 billion dollars for 2009.
Robert Downey Jr.'s 'Sherlock Holmes,' James Cameron's 'Avatar' and an 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' sequel are among the potential blockbusters arriving by Christmas.
"With numerous huge films still on the way, we are poised for the first $10 billion year at the box-office, a milestone that has never been reached in the history of the box-office," the Telegraph quoted Dergarabedian as saying. (ANI)
