London, December 10 (ANI): A Neil Diamond fan made a bid of 27,000 pounds to meet the singing legend.

Self-employed chauffeur Kevin Fitzpatrick decided to spend his entire life-savings on joining the music maestro at a party in California later this month.

The 60-year-old from Lancashire had not even informed his wife before he made the bid on BBC Radio 2 for Children In Need.

"I don't know what I was thinking, to be honest. I didn't think it was going to get as high as it did," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

He added: "I phoned my wife up and told her and she ended up in tears. It was partly because I had spent all our savings. But we talked it out."

Kevin's wife Julie, said: "The first thing I did was tell him to retract the bid. But when I realised this was a once-in-a-lifetime trip to have dinner with Neil Diamond, 68, at his home - and that our savings were going to such a good cause - I thought we should just go with the flow."

The couple will reach Malibu on December 17 and attend an afternoon and evening party with the singer and 50 family and friends on December 19.

Kevin concluded: "People have asked if I am going to take a present, but what on earth do you get a man like Neil Diamond? I will take him a Christmas card." (ANI)
