Islamabad, Dec.9 (ANI): Former Pakistan opening batsman Aamir Sohail has said that batsmen like Mohammad Wasim and Yasir Hameed should have been included in the squad for the Australia series.
Sohail told PakPassion.net that in the absence of Younus Khan, the middle order needed some experienced player to handle the pressure, and both Wasim and Hameed fitted in that role perfectly.
"If Younus was not going to tour Australia, then you needed more experience in the top order and someone like Mohammad Wasim or Yasir Hameed should have been selected," Sohail said.
He said Wasim has been performing well in the domestic tournaments, and also has an impressive record in Australia's.
"He (Wasim) is a specialist number three and would have been a good choice for the tour down under. If the selectors can bring back Misbah-ul-Haq at his age, then Wasim was also an option," Sohail added.
While Umar Akmal has performed tremendously batting at number three, Sohail, however, backed captain Mohammad Yousuf to bat at the important position during the forthcoming Test series down under.
"Yousuf needs to utilise his experience in Australia and ensure that he bats at number three throughout the series. If he does so, it would give the opening pair some confidence knowing that there is such an experienced campaigner due to come in next," he said. (ANI)
