Oz, Windies question cricket video efficacy

Adelaide, Sat, 05 Dec 2009 ANI

Adelaide (US), Dec. 5 (ANI): Captains of the Australian and West Indian cricket teams currently facing up to each other at the Adelaide Oval have expressed bewilderment and scepticism about the efficacy of cricket's electronic eye.

A furious Ricky Ponting turned into "Captain Teapot" - standing with hands on hips - as cricket's new video review system denied Australia the prize West Indian scalp of Shiv Chanderpaul.

An animated Ponting took at eternity to retreat to the slips and questioned both on-field umpires as he disputed the unsuccessful result of a caught-behind video referral, reports The Telegraph.

Despite the video appearing to confirm Chanderpaul had missed the Doug Bollinger delivery, all video replays in the world could not convince Ponting who was certain he had heard a loud edge. It caused a major on-field flare up and was a bad look for a frustrated Australia.

"The boys need to get back to their mark and start playing now," former Test pacer Damien Fleming said.

The video review process requires conclusive evidence to overturn a decision and it was dumbfounding how Rauf could have possibly been convinced when technology was not at all clear.

Chanderpaul was incredulous when he was sent on his way for 62 - walking off the ground shaking his head - as the video review process came under fire again. (ANI)
