New Delhi, Dec.3 (ANI): Australia's High Commissioner to India Peter Varghese will inaugurate the Oz Haat Charity Mela on the front lawns of the high commision this Saturday.
Showcasing Indian NGO vendors, the mela is the only one of its kind in Delhi. Running since 2002, this major initiative of the Australian High Commission to support development activities in India.
In 2009, the event will feature over 40 vendors along with food and refreshment stalls, and a special Christmas corner.
During the event, Varghese will announce the Australian Government's increased Direct Aid Program (DAP) funding.
The DAP funding for 2009 has been increased to 250,000 dollars. Since 2001, the DAP has distributed more than a million Australian dollars in funds for development programs in a range of areas, including education, health, income generation and environment. (ANI)
