India to sign three agreements with Bangladesh

New Delhi, Dec 2 (ANI): India has today finalised three agreements with Bangladesh aiming at mutual assistance in criminal matters, combating terrorism and organised crime and illegal drug trafficking.

 

The agreements will be duly signed after Bangladesh Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina's visit to India. The Bangladesh PM is expected to visit India on December 18.

 

The agreements were give a green signal in the presence of Indian Home Secretary G.K.Pillai and Bangladesh Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder.

 

An agreement on the transfer of sentenced prisoners was also signed between the two countries.

 

A decision to speed-up the process of verification and nationality status of prisoners lodged in jails of either country, mostly those who have completed their sentence, to facilitate their release early on was also taken up for discussion.

 

The two countries also decide to take instant action to locate the prisoners against whom Red Corner Notices have been issued and assured each other not to permit terrorist outfits to function in each other's benefits.

 

A cooperation to augment capacity building in police and other related law agencies was also discussed, besides a resolution to take strict action against all linked with trafficking of women and children along the border. (ANI)
