Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir), Nov 18 (ANI): A large number of militants are ready to enter the country from various points along the international border and the Line of Control (LoC), security officials claimed here on Tuesday.
There have been infiltration efforts, but the security forces have deterred most of them, said Raman Shrivastava, the Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF).
Infiltration was bound to rise before the snow blocked the mountainous passes, he added.
Shrivastava was speaking on the wreath ceremony of BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) O P Tanwar who was killed in a blast in the Ramgarh sector of Samba here on Monday.
"We have inputs from various sources about large number of militants waiting at different points along the entire international border and the Line of Control and different launch pads in Pakistan. The entire borders are alerted; the Army is alerted on the LoC, BSF is also there at the LoC. We are trying to prevent this infiltration because there will be a surge in infiltration before the snow closes the passes for winter. Therefore we know they are going to try, they have tried, and at many places we have repulsed them," said Shrivastava.
India and Pakistan have gone to war twice over the Loc divided Kashmir.
Pakistan has always refused its involvement in backing up the anti-India insurgency that has claimed more than 47,000 lives since 1989. (ANI)
