Fewer visitors at India International trade fair

New Delhi, Tue, 17 Nov 2009 ANI

New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): Traders from various countries participating at the 29th edition of India International Trade Fair are disappointed, as the sale had plummeted this year

The 14-day fair, which has China as the focus country and Thailand as the partner nation this year has exhibitors from over 29 countries.

"The business was much better last year. People are not buying," said Ashraf Akhilifa, a trader from Bangladesh.

"Due to recession we are not going up to the mark. Last year the sale was very good but this year despite many new designs, new innovative products, but we have not got so good response yet," said Manish Bhasin, a Indian trader from Hong Kong.

Unlike previous years, when stalls were open only for half a day, the fair this year has stalls open throughout the day to give the traders optimum business opportunity.rade Minister Anand Sharma had recently said that the arrest of a steep fall in exports is reassuring.

India's exports have fallen twelve straight months to September, but officials say the declining trend might be reversed by January. Exports in September fell an annual 13.8 percent.

The fortnight-long fair, which will see about 7,500 domestic and overseas exhibitors from 29 countries, is organised annually by the Indian Trade Promotion Organisation and provides a platform for trade promotion and helps facilitate interaction between national and international buyers. (ANI)
