Craig McDermott's son to make first-class debut against Windies

Sydney, Mon, 16 Nov 2009 ANI

Sydney, Nov 16(ANI): Former Australian fast bowler Craig McDermott's son Alister has been named in Queensland's starting line-up for the four-day match against the touring West Indies side this week.

Alister will make his first-class debut against the same team that his father made his Test debut against 25 years ago.

At 18 years and 164 days, Alister will also be 75 days younger than his father when he made his first-class debut in a Sheffield Shield match for Queensland in 1983-84.

Dubbed 'Billy the Kid', Craig went on to make his Test debut just a year later when he took six wickets in the Boxing Day Test against Clive Lloyd's team in 1984. The highlights of the match was the three middle-order wickets for one run, which reduced the tourists to 5-154 on day one at the MCG.

"The corridor really hasn't changed, you still have to bowl the top of off (stump) a lot and just don't bowl full to Chris Gayle because he'll hit you over your head," Fox Sports quoted Alister, as saying."Hopefully I get the new ball, but if not, I'll take first change any day of the week, especially against the West Indies, that's for sure," he added.
