Chennai, Nov 15 (ANI): Former cricket captain Kapil Dev was honoured with a doctorate degree by MGR University here.
The ace cricketer was conferred the degree for his invaluable contribution to the world of cricket during the University's 18th convocation ceremony.
Talking to reporters, he said: "My mom thought his one son would become a lawyer and the other may be a doctor. It could not happen like that. My mom was not so fortunate to see this day. But, some where, I feel this is so beautiful."
Kapil Dev is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the world of cricket.
He was the captain of the Indian cricket team when India won the World Cup in 1983.
He was named by Wisden as the Indian Cricketer of the Century in 2002.
He also had a stint as India's national cricket coach for 10 months between October 1999 and August 2000. (ANI)
