Guwahati, Nov 12 (ANI): Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah has condemned the existence of linguistic chauvinism in the country.
Addressing a two-day conference on energy resources here on Wednesday, Abdullah said the country should rise above linguistic prejudices.
"For small matters we fight each other. Can you use Hindi or not Hindi, Can I use Assamese of no Assamese? Can I speak Kashmiri or not Kashmiri? This is India. India is for all of us. Whether you speak Kashmiri or not, you are part of India," said Abdullah.bdullah's impassioned plea came in the backdrop of ugly scenes marring the assembly session in Maharashtra on Monday.
Abu Azmi, a legislator of the newly elected Maharashtra Assembly was assaulted on Monday for taking oath in Hindi, and not in the regional language Marathi, by the legislators of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). (ANI)
