Kashmiris call for development, not talks

Anantnag , Mon, 09 Nov 2009 ANI

Anantnag, Nov 9 (ANI): A large section of the people in Kashmir feel that formulas adopted by separatist parties would not solve the problem of the State, and concrete steps should be taken for development.

"In the recently concluded elections the people voted for a government who would give them development and you need to keep in mind what people want. If the common man needs peace then what's the point talking big on other issues? First give them peace, look at avenues of development and then only things can be solved," said Ghulam Nabi, a resident.

Many believe that the political parties need to find meaningful ideas for promoting peace and development in Kashmir that stocking controversies.

"Some talk about autonomy, some talk of self-rule and some talk of freedom but if all senior leaders stand for a single issue then a lot can change. However here every leader has a different talk process causing more trouble to the civilians in the state," said Parvez Ahmed, another resident.

The recent introduction of train services in the Kashmir Valley will create avenues for development in the region locals believe. Hence such initiatives should begin in the state so that the local youth do not migrate to different cities in the country," Qureshi, a youth believed.

"I feel for the common man the talk process doesn't mean anything as it holds no value. We only want development and want to move forward," he said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently called on youth of Kashmir to reverse the brain drain that has denuded the state of many of its teachers, doctors, engineers and intellectuals. (ANI)
