Srinagar, Oct 27 (ANI): The Hurriyat Conference on Tuesday called for a complete shutdown in Srinagar on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of arrival of Indian troops in the state.
The troops were airlifted to combat Pakistan raiders.
All the shops and other business establishments were forced to remain closed. Even banks, educational institutions and government offices were closed.
The traffic was off the roads.
Most of the streets looked deserted apart from occasional traffic and security patrols on the road.
On October 27, 1947, Indian troops entered Kashmir. Pakistan has fought three wars since independence on Kashmir.
After the sub-continent's partition in 1947, the ruler of independent Kashmir signed an instrument of accession to India when Pakistan invaded the State even though it has entered into a standstill Agreement with Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
